The story takes place in 1954 and follows U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) as he investigates the disappearance of a patient from a psychiatric hospital on a remote island. Teddy, along with his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), begins to unravel the mysteries of the hospital, only to find himself confronting his own dark past.
