The fight for rights and recognition within the transgender community and the broader LGBTQ culture continues to this day. Transgender individuals face high rates of violence, discrimination in employment and housing, and significant barriers to healthcare. According to the Human Rights Campaign, in 2021 alone, at least 47 transgender and gender non-conforming individuals were reported killed in the United States.
