The story takes place in 14th-century Europe, during the Black Death. The plot revolves around Angélique (Gemma Arterton), a beautiful and mysterious woman accused of witchcraft, and Nicolas Cage as a Knight Templar named Gottfried von Berneburg, who is tasked with transporting her to a monastery. Along the way, they are joined by a young monk named Benjamin (Jay Baruchel), who becomes entangled in their perilous journey.
