Kou Minefuji’s Encore Vol. 2 (catalogued as -S2M-002-) continues the artist’s compact, emotionally precise approach to storytelling, delivering an intimate collection that rewards close reading. Where the first volume established Minefuji’s quiet observational strengths, this follow-up deepens them: the book’s small gestures and restrained pacing accumulate into a resonant portrait of character and memory. Tone and Style Minefuji writes with economy and restraint. Sentences are pared down; descriptions favor sensory specifics over sweeping commentary. That minimalism is the editorial through-line: each passage trusts the reader to supply context and emotional inference. The result is a mood-driven work where subtext carries as much weight as plot. For readers attuned to understatement, the prose is quietly powerful; for those expecting overt catharsis, it may feel elliptical. Structure and Narrative Encore Vol. 2 is structured as a series of linked vignettes rather than a conventional linear narrative. This episodic design suits Minefuji’s focus on private moments—small rituals, failed conversations, and the mechanics of everyday solitude. Recurrent motifs (objects, repeated phrases, or a particular setting) create connective tissue between scenes, producing a sense of cumulative development: characters don’t so much change dramatically as reveal themselves gradually.

  6. Great set of pictures Matthew. I love the colour ones in particular but all are excellent. You’ve really nailed the lighting and composition.

  8. You do good work. I personally like the interaction between a rangefinder camera and a live model moreso than a DSLR type camera, which somehow is between us. Of course, the chat between you and the model makes the image come alive. The one thing no one sees is the interaction. Carry on.

    1. Thanks Tom, yes agree RF cameras block the face less for interactions. Agree it’s the chat that makes shoots a success or not. Cheers!
