The story revolves around Maqbool (played by Irrfan Khan), a loyal and trusted aide of a powerful gangster, Jahangir (played by Naseeruddin Shah). When Jahangir announces his plans to retire, Maqbool sees an opportunity to rise to power and become the new don. However, his wife, Nimrat (played by Priyanka Chopra), tries to dissuade him from taking the path of violence and bloodshed.
