The story takes place in the early 22nd century, where John Carter (played by Taylor Kitsch), a former U.S. Army Corpsman, is transported to Mars, known as Barsoom, after being separated from his family. On Mars, he finds himself in a world of warring nations and advanced technology. He soon discovers that he has superhuman strength due to the planet's lower gravity.
